Leading to achieveWrapping up there was a lot of testing they were having to complete. We were not able to do as much work with the students. During their break/ snack time we would sit with the students and engage in conversations. They new we were they if they needed any help with homework or assignments. BreaksMrs. Armstrong was very kind and cared a lot about the kids mental health. She took the time to get to know each kid and what works for them and what kind of learning style works best for them. this helps to better the students and better their learning experience. Wrap up We did something different everyday throughout the month with our students. Everything from helping with homework and directions to socializing with them as they had their break time. I truly feel that during this time we were able to build strong relationships and connections with the kids as well as help them with their schoolwork. I loved working with these kids and getting to know each and every one of there unique personalities. This project has helped me to be a leader, a good influence, and to also be better about communication.

New Palestine Intermediate SchoolWe were able to get into contact with administration at New Pal Intermediate school to see if we were able to set up a mentor program. We were then set into contact with Mrs. Armstrong. Mrs. Armstrong is a 6th grade teacher. We then met with her to get a feel for the class and an idea of what she needed as well as the types of kids we were going to be there for. The BeginningOne our first few days we watched the class and just met a few students, getting to know them so they would warm up to us. We introduced ourselves to a few students and were able to work with them on a few assignments and understanding directions. Our focusThere are various children that we were able to work with. Some of these students we were working with really just needed someone there, someone to talk to, vent to, or to care when they need it. Not every child has a perfect home life. Some children have it way harder than others and or goal was to be there for those children that need us. No matter what they needed us to be, a friend, a leader, whatever they need.
One girl we were able to put a lot of our focus into was a young girl that did not have a great home life and was really behind and struggling in school. We were able to get one on one with her and help her to stay focused as well as take healthy breaks to talk to us and get things off her chest. We learned a lot about her and a lot about ourselves. She was able to get things done and also was able to talk to us when she needed instead of having to stay quiet through a whole class. |
